As lunar night fell on September 2, the rover and lander were put to sleep. ISRO retries to contact Vikram and Pragyan on September 23, but no communication has been established. ISRO believes that if Vikram and Pragyaan do not revive, they will remain on the Moon as "India's lunar ambassador".  ISRO collaborates with NASA and the European Space Agency to interact with rovers and landers via the Deep Space Network.

There could be several reasons for this:

  • The low temperature of the Moon's surface during a lunar night makes it unlikely that Chandrayaan3 can be properly resurrected.
  • Vikram and Pragyan's equipment would most likely stop working after 14 days of being subjected to that heat.
