Following their victory in the T20 World Cup in Barbados, the Indian cricket team's travel home was severely delayed by Hurricane Beryl. All flights were canceled at Grantley Adams International Airport in Bridgetown due to the Category 4 hurricane.
Originally, it was anticipated that the Indian team, support personnel, families, board members, and journalists would board a charter jet that the BCCI had scheduled for Monday. The airport closure, however, made this idea unfeasible.
While on the squad in Barbados, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said they were also stuck because of the hurricane. When the weather cleared, the board had to make new plans to ensure the safety of the officials and players.
Ultimately, the group took a specially scheduled Air India charter flight, designated as AIC24WC, out of Barbados on Wednesday morning, concluding a 16-hour nonstop travel to Delhi. The World Cup champions arrived in India on Thursday to a rousing reception from fervent supporters, despite the delay.
